In a Swan Dive

about

Written by Pamela Sue Mann, recorded with Music n Noise, and produced by Subtle Paranoia, ‘In A Swan Dive’ is a subterranean confession of cluelessness - a kind of psychic preamble to shit hitting the fan. Written in earnest to a best friend, ‘In a Swan Dive’ highlights the trials of being human and what it means to carry on amidst a challenging and ever-changing world of uncertainty. For those of us momentarily lost and overwhelmed by it all, this song speaks to those who understand the nature of this feeling. ‘In A Swan Dive’ is a grateful acknowledgement of the gift that profound connection holds in these times. I hope it may bring a smidgeon of relief to another being trying to navigate their own topsy-turvy, perplexing, and often confounding reality.

The vocals and 1927 Steinway D grand piano were recorded at Forrest Sound LIC, then Music N Noise and I took the bones of the song and sculpted strings and sonic elements around them to reflect the emotional ebb and flow of the piece.

Multi-BAFTA Award-winning (director) Graeme Harper writes:
“Pamela Sue Mann’s songs are so poetical, and this one really reaches out to those personal, quiet moments of reflection one has late at night after a hectic and long day. I love the moment early on when Mann’s fragile voice and piano are joined by the warm and gentle string FX that gives the story hope. This is all smashing.”

While in the studio recording this piece with my friend and collaborator, Music n Noise, we decided to form a new band called ‘Subtle Paranoia.’ Our next project is due out later this Spring!

lyrics

Knock me over
With a feather
Feel like giving up
Much too much to
Keep together
For this
Huddled mass of fluff

I Don’t have to say a thing
Cuz you know

There are times
Of late
I’d give you
I would give to you my life
I can’t possibly tell you
Not to worry

You see it’s all too much
Sometimes
And I don’t know how
To fight

I Don’t have to say a thing
Cuz I know You know I know
You know that
I Don’t have to say a thing
Cuz I know You know I know you know

So don’t take me on
Cuz You’ve got enough
Pain
And I’ll regenerate
Again
If just to love
You and them
If just to love
You and them

I Don’t have to say a thing

Cuz we are Inside
In a Swan dive
We’re in a swan dive
You know

You know
